Rotation Landscape

Project Overview

ART 529: Digital Imaging Studio II: Rotation Landscape | Madison, WI, Sophomore Student January 2026 – May 2026

For this project I wanted to create a "Rotating "3D environement, where the camera could rotate around a standstill landscape as different effects and animations would play through each rotation. This project was mainly inspired by 3D art dioramas that I've seen online where it is a large 3D environment that comprises of alot of small storytelling details that illustrate a story without directly telling the user with words. I also took inspiration from real world objects such as snowglobes, which comprise of a small diorama and the user is able to move it around to create the snowflakes or rotate it around to look for any fun secrets hidden in the environment.

I took the idea and applied with a Cabin in the woods environment on top of a floating island in the endless night. I really wanted to evoke a sense of relaxation and mystery with the piece as to evoke the same feelings I would get from being out at night with all the diferent parts of nature entertwining to create a calm environment. I also took inspiration from the environment design from the show Gravity Falls as it primarily takes place in a Summer Cabin in the woods. It definitely helped with refining the smaller details in the background and foreground.

The fire used in the animation is a fluid. I really wanted to have a fire in the scene as I felt it illustrated the that cozy cabin in the woods aesthetic I was going for, and I'm really happy with how it turned out!
