Project Overview
ART 346: Basic Graphic Design | Madison, WI
Sophomore Student September 2024 – December 2024
Create a gig poster for your favorite band or musician.
This project will continue your journey in applying gestalt principles and behavioral design concepts to achieve a particular outcome - this time you'll be designing a concert poster in Photoshop to generate excitement (and ultimately ticket sales) for an upcoming gig of your choice.
You'll want to pay particular focus on designing a layout that instills emotions through meaning and a shared sense of identity. Becoming a fan of a band or artist is almost like joining a tribe

Personal Notes
For this Project I decided to design a theoretical Gig poster for the Indie Rock band: Good Kid. I chose Good Kid because I'm a big fan of their music, so I already had a major motivation to design a poster for them.
The project as had us chose the location that our band was gonna play in. I chose Madison, Wisconsin as the location as I felt it would be the easiest to apply since I've been getting more familar with Madison's culture during my time as a Student in UW-Madison.
I took a lot of inspiration from Good kid's own discography, specifically their album art and promotional material as I felt it was the most representative of their brand. I also used various characters and symbols associated with the band to serve as eye-catching material for the poster.
I specifically used one of their early concert tours poster, which is the purple van with a green background, as the format I wanted to tackle for this poster. I felt the vibrant contrast between the Deep Blue background elements and Bright Yellow characters and logo worked well together to evoke the energetic songs of the band.
