Container/ContainedProject

Project Overview

ART 409: Digital Fabrication StudioL Container/Contained | Madison, WI, Junior Student September 2025 – December 2025

For this project I was inspired by personal projects I saw online of people taking their old broken gaming consoles and repurposing them to create garden pots or for creative art projects.

I wanted to take theme of repurposing a console for a new unintended form by having the main subject/container be a handheld console that resembles a deserted island. The characters interacting with the environment like an island/home.

Personal Notes

For this project I modeled the Game console in Maya Software, which was then 3D printed with Blue filament. The wooden characters were designed in illustrator and then cut out with a CNC lazer machine. I really wanted the subject and the environment to contrast each other, so I chose to make them with different materials. I then used a hot glue gun to glue the figures onto the console, but the top and bottom screen subjects fit tightly into the console.
